Summer hair removal has two enemies: timing and the sun. With a little planning, though, you can enjoy the beach with smooth, calm skin throughout. Here’s the schedule.

Time it 1–2 days before the beach

Freshly waxed skin is sensitive, so don’t wax right before sunbathing. Best to do it 1–2 days before the beach: the skin settles by then, and the result lasts longer too.

Large area? Roll-on is the fast option

For legs and arms roll-on wax is fastest: it applies a thin, even layer, so you’re done with bigger areas in minutes.

Sun and wax: the rules

  • Don’t sunbathe on freshly waxed skin for 24 hours — it can blotch.
  • After waxing, use sunscreen on exposed skin.
  • Chlorinated or salt water can irritate fresh skin — wait a day before swimming too.

A painless alternative

If you’d rather not wax right before a holiday, depilatory cream is a fast, painless option — though it lasts a shorter time than wax.
