Salon waxing isn't magic — it's protocol. Follow the same steps at home and you get the same result. Here is the full run-through.
1. Preparation (the day before)
Exfoliate (dead skin is the main cause of ingrown hairs) and let the hair reach 4-5 mm. On waxing day skip the body lotion — wax grips best on clean, dry skin.
2. Temperature: the step that matters most
Bead wax is right when it flows like thick honey — dripping means too hot, dragging means too cold. Always test on the inside of your wrist. With an electric heater this step is foolproof: it holds the set temperature.
3. Application and the pull
Apply wax in the direction of hair growth and pull against it — one decisive motion, parallel to the skin, not upwards. Stretch the skin with your other hand at the moment of the pull: that is the secret to a painless session.
4. Aftercare
Remove wax residue with cleansing oil (water won't do it), then avoid hot baths, sauna and sunbathing for 24 hours. After two days, a first gentle exfoliation keeps ingrown hairs away.
